About us

Ocean womxn are scientists, leaders and icons.

We are uniquely placed in South Africa to access and produce cutting-edge oceanographic research. But we see very few black womxn researchers doing this work.

That’s not because of a lack of talent. It’s because there are real barriers that prevent womxn from making science their future.

From financial constraints to family responsibilities or lack of access to resources, we want to help overcome these barriers.

We believe nothing should stand in the way of black womxn who deserve a place in oceanography. And there most definitely is a place for them.

Whether it’s research into climate change, pollution, weather patterns or coastal livelihood, the job market is calling for these womxn.

We want Ocean Womxn to lead the way, to do outstanding research and stand as icons for future womxn in science.
